Hallmark-CA2016---shortlist

We are excited to share the news that we have been shortlisted for the Charity Awards 2016!

The Women’s Resource Centre is delighted to announce that it has made the shortlist for this year’s Charity Awards, the longest-running and most prestigious awards scheme in the charity sector.

The Women’s Resource Centre has been shortlisted in the advice, support and campaigning for its VAWG consortium, which acknowledges two things: violence against women has not declined, and councils are increasingly inclined towards commissioning services rather than making grants. Commissioners also favour partnership bids as these reduce the number of contracts they have to administer. The Consortium brings together 22 organisations and, by collaborating, has ended the postcode lottery of services available to women at risk of and suffering violence in London. The Consortium supports more than 50,000 individuals each year, at a rough cost of £60 per person. Service users report feeling more independent, safer, being better parents and enjoying better mental health.

The Charity Awards is the sector’s most highly-regarded excellence recognition scheme. All 30 shortlisted charities this year have been judged by an independent panel of sector leaders as having demonstrated outstanding best practice from which other organisations can learn.

The ten category winners, plus the recipients of the Overall Award for Excellence and the Daniel Phelan Award for Outstanding Achievement, will be announced at a ceremony and dinner on Thursday 9 June at the Mermaid Theatre in London’s Blackfriars. The black-tie evening will be hosted by former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull, who will be joined by representatives of the shortlisted charities, alongside senior figures from the charity and civil society sector, and a smattering of celebrities from the worlds of theatre, television, music and sport.
