Volunteering for the Women’s  Resource Centre

The Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) supports women’s organisations to be more effective and sustainable. We provide training, resources and support to women’s organisations and we campaign and lobby on key issues for the sector.

About this role:

The Fundraising volunteer role will give you the chance to experience areas of fundraising and research within a busy women’s charity. The role might include tasks like:

  • Identifying potential fundraising opportunities
  • Updating fundraising resources
  • Researching and writing articles and features for our magazine, email newsletter, website and blog
  • Helping to organise WRC events with WRC staff

You are not expected to be an expert in all (or any) of these areas, but an enthusiasm for research, fundraising and women’s rights is required.

The role is flexible and could suit people in many situations, including those looking to start a career in the voluntary sector, particularly the women’s voluntary sector, people looking to refresh their skills after a career break, recent graduates and others.

To ensure you are able to take on interesting tasks with some responsibility, we ask for a commitment of at least 2 days a week (could be more), for a minimum of 3 months. However, we are open to suggestions of other arrangements.

We will provide training (where appropriate), support and flexibility for our interns. We will provide a written record of the work you have completed. We will also reimburse travel and lunch expenses, up to an agreed amount.

You may have gained some of the experience and skills listed below through  paid or voluntary experience. WRC aims to provide individuals with the opportunity to update existing skills and knowledge as well as gain new skills in different areas. You don’t already need to have all the experience, skills and knowledge listed below.

Volunteer  Project Description

 Project aims

  • Support WRC with identifying potential fundraising opportunities.
  • Support WRC with updating fundraising resources. 

Main tasks

  1. Research and identify fundraising opportunities which may be relevant and appropriate to WRC – in particular trust funding, corporate sponsorship, Corporate Social Responsibility partners, celebrities and influential women, women on rich lists and identifying their particular funding interests from a range of sources such as Funding Directories, online business links and resources available from NCVO etc., celebrity magazines, newspaper Articles.
  1. Research and report back on other fundraising opportunities as identified by the Fundraising Working Group.
  2. Support WRC with updating information such as the ‘Funding Matrix’, treasure map and resources on fundraising to support the Fundraising Working Group.
  3.  Attend Fundraising Working Group meetings and report on work as appropriate
  4. Researching and writing articles and features for our magazine, email newsletter, website and blog.
  5. Helping to organise WRC events with WRC staff.
  6. Other tasks that may develop and are relevant and appropriate to the role.

 

Timescale : Ideally this project would be at least 2 days a week for no less than 3 months (preferably 6 months but we are flexible!).

 

Skills/knowledge required/developed

  • Methodical and organised approach to work
  • Good written communication skills
  • Ability to research information from a variety of sources
  • Some knowledge and understanding of fundraising
  • Good keyboard skills and experience of using Microsoft Office for Windows with at least an intermediate level of competence in the use of Excel

Expenses: Travel and lunch (up to £10 a day) .
