women-speak-out-video-stories-about-everyday-inequality

Funded by Comic Relief, this project is all about challenging negative media stereotypes about the issues that women face in society: health issues, disability, immigration, welfare, physical and sexual violence, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, education, and so on.

As TV programs such as Benefits Street affect the ways in which the public perceive these issues, we want to demonstrate the complexities of women’s lives and the many barriers they face. The project involves making short films of women telling their story – a reflection of the life of the woman and what she is going through. Women will have full creative control over how their story is told.

These stories will be part of a website which journalists can access, and for women who are interested, we will give intensive media training to develop the skills and confidence to speak to the media. WRC will be on hand to work with women to prepare them for each interaction with journalists they may have.

If you know of women who might be interested in joining the project, you can find more information here or you can call Vivienne Hayes , or email Florence
