Description:
Do you have a commitment to working within a women-centred service and to making a difference to the lives of women?

Women in Prison (WIP) is a unique charity that campaigns for change and provides support, advice and guidance to women affected by the criminal justice system.

We have an exciting new opportunity to lead a new project at WIP to support women affected by the criminal justice system address their healthcare needs.

WIP has been awarded funding for three years by the Big Lottery Fund under its Women and Girls’ Initiative to enable us to launch our new support project, Health Matters.

Women affected by the criminal justice system have far poorer and more serious health problems than the general population due to experience of chronic poverty, difficulties with mental health, violence, substance misuse and substandard housing and homelessness. The Health Matters project aims to enable women to understand the links between all these experiences and approach healthcare in a holist way ie understanding the link between mental health and physical health, nutrition, and other complex needs.

The project aims to support and advocate for women to better access healthcare services in prison and through into the community. Health Matters will also run or signpost to educational programmes and information for women to identify and address any healthcare needs and improve wellbeing.

As Project Services Manager you will effectively deliver Health Matters in accordance with specific funding requirements. You will ensure the project provides an independent, needs-led health support and advocacy service to participants, increases access for women to healthcare services and improves the response within the criminal justice system for women to meet their healthcare needs.

In this post you will have primary responsibility for promoting the project externally, seeking out partnership opportunities to maximise the delivery of the service, providing line management to Health Matters Advocates and support staff, and obtaining additional funding streams to help secure the future of the project or reach further groups of service users.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to working within a women centred service and to making a difference to the lives of women.

*This post is restricted to women only as a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 paragraph 1, Equality Act 2010
