Are you a woman willing to tell your story through video, and make your voice heard?

We are looking for women who have experienced inequality, unfairness or marginalisation to speak out as part of our film project at the Women’s Resource Centre (the national umbrella body for women’s charities). Our aim is to challenge stereotypes and empower women to feel confident in telling their story.

You might be a single mum trying to balance work and family life, a low paid worker, a refugee risking deportation to a country you left because of violence or poverty, or a professional pursuing a career in a male-dominated sector. You might have experienced violence, poverty, physical or mental health issues, and problems with housing or addiction. You might also have been a victim of media or social stereotyping, and struggling with confidence and self-esteem. We want to change that by building up your confidence and by challenging those stereotypes. We want to give you back control of your own narrative by encouraging you to speak out.

Every woman has a story to tell. We want to hear yours!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Tell your story in your way

We will meet with you, or arrange a phone conversation to talk about what the barriers you have faced are, what your story is, and how you want to tell it.

  1. Make your video

We will then meet you with our filmmaker(s), who have lots of experience in making short films. This can take place wherever is best for you. This will usually take around 4 hours.

  1. Come to a media training

We are providing free media training for women who complete videos or want to complete videos. This is a full-day training  where you will meet the other women involved in the project, and gain confidence in how to present your story to the media should you want to speak out further about your story.

  1. Stay in touch

If we get calls from journalists who would like to speak to you about your story, we will get in contact with you and let you know. You then decide whether you want to speak to them or not – it’s up to you. If you do decide you want to speak out to the media, we can be with you every step of the way. This can be as much or as little as you want – you decide.
