Young Women’s Trust (YWT) is a national charity which supports and represents young, disadvantaged women in England and Wales, aged 16-30 who are living on low or no pay.

Through working and volunteering with YWT I have found that young women, are in most cases, worse off than young men. They are more likely to not be in education, employment or training unemployment figures amongst young women are higher, and they also face gender discrimination and are often under-represented.

I myself have faced challenging times and have experienced the burden of being long term unemployed; in 2014 I was out of work for almost 1 year. Whilst I was not working I realised that there was very little support for me and for young women in similar circumstances within my local area.

This experience compelled me and five other young women who volunteer with YWT, to take action by trying to bring about positive change for your women in our communities. We believe that one of the best ways to make this happen would be to create local networks; And so, the South London Local Network was born!

This network will give these women an opportunity for their voices to be heard. It will be a safe and welcoming environment for young women, to support each other, share their stories and most importantly, work together to create campaigns and initiatives that encourage greater opportunities for women in the area.

If you have a burning desire to positively impact the lives of young women in South London, then get in touch via email on or you can call me on .

To join, you must be a young women aged 16-30 with experience of living on low or no pay to get involved.
